Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released a dozen of players ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction.  KKR have not won the IPL since 2014 and the franchise will look to finetune their squad come the IPL 2024 player auction on 19 December. KKR finished seventh in IPL 2023 with 12 points, and have not made the playoffs since 2021.

IPL Auctions 2024: KKR retained players, current squad, purse amount, remaining slots

The biggest news for KKR is the retention of West Indian duo Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. While Russell had a rather below-par season with the bat, scoring just 227 runs from 14 matches, that was still enough for the team management to put faith in him for another season. Narine, meanwhile, had ended last season with 11 wickets from 14 matches.

KKR also have their batting firepower with the likes of Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer retained in the squad. What’s more, Shreyas Iyer will all be set to return to the side to further bolster their batting line-up.

Some of the biggest names to have been released before the auction were Shardul Thakur, Shakib Al Hasan and Umesh Yadav. New Zealand’s duo of Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee have also been released by KKR.

Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, let’s take a look at how KKR’s squad stacks up and how much money is remaining in the purse:

Kolkata Knight Riders released players: Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Aarya Desai, David Wiese, Narayan Jagadeesan, Mandeep Singh, Kulwant Khejroliya, Shardul Thakur, Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Johnson Charles
