BCCI’s honorary treasurer, Ashish Shelar, dismissed reports stating that Team India players would wear such a jersey, and said that the players would don only blue colours.

“We categorically dismiss the media reports that Team India will be donning an alternative match kit against Pakistan. These reports are absolutely baseless and a work of someone’s imagination. The Men in Blue will sport India colours – Blue at ICC Cricket World Cup 2023,” Ashish told news agency ANI.

It has to be noted that India had in fact donned an alternative jersey during their clash against England in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

India players have also been seen wearing an orange coloured training jersey.

The Rohit Sharma-led outfit began their 2023 World Cup campaign with a six-wicket win against Australia. Spinners ruled the roost as India restricted Australia to 199 in 49.3 overs.

In reply, India lost their top order of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer early but Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97*) forged 165 runs for the fourth wicket to see India home.

India play Pakistan in the marquee fixture in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on 14 October. Before that, the Men in Blue face Afghanistan in Delhi on 11 October.
