India missing 'skills and character' of MS Dhoni: Michael Holding

"(MS) Dhoni comes in to this Indian batting order halfway down and he usually takes control while chasing. India have chased so well in the past with MS Dhoni in the team," Holding said.

"This batting line-up that they have got is still very talented - we saw some talented players and fantastic strokeplay. Hardik played a beautiful knock but they still need a player like Dhoni. Not just his skills but his strength of character."

India fined 20 percent match fee

Virat Kohli's side has been fined 20 percent of the match fee for slow-over rate against Australia in the first ODI played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). India captain Kohli has accepted the fine imposed on the team for the offence and the visitors won't be challenging the decision by the referee.

1st ODI takeaways

The Indian men’s team didn’t have a day to remember as they returned to international cricket after 269 days – the longest such gap for India since 1991 – as they were a distant second to Australia at Sydney, losing by 66 runs to go 1-0 down in the three-match ODI series.

Away from the many shades of the IPL, Australia’s stars rediscovered the gold standard in yellow, even as India found themselves in a retro-fit as they debuted their new retro kit.

From a fielding display from the dark days to India's toothless bowling and lack of back-ups, Yash Jha writes on the talking points from the first ODI. Click here to read it.

Indian bowlers in focus in 2nd ODI at Sydney

After losing the first ODI by 66 runs and conceding 374 runs, Indian bowling would be in focus as Virat Kohli and Co aim to script a comeback to keep the series alive. Hardik Pandya's inability to bowl due to the back issues has impacted the team's balance as none of the top six batsmen are contributing with the ball and that has left the captain Kohli with only five bowling options.

India doesn't have another all-rounder to call up to the side and that means the team would once against have only five bowlers on the ground.

With Australia’s top three — captain Aaron Finch, David Warner and Steve Smith — hitting the straps right away, Jasprit Bumrah and company will have no option but to pick up the pieces and give a better account of themselves on a strip that promises to be a belter.

Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the second Australia vs India ODI. Virat Kohli and Co were handed a bitter 66-run defeat in the first game of the three-match series and need to win tonight to save the series. The second match would also be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground same as the first game.

India vs Australia 2020, Live Cricket Score of 2nd ODI Match: Virat Kohli and CO need to win tonight to keep the series alive after they lost the first match of the three-game series by 66 runs. The main focus in the game would be on India's bowlers who had a nightmarish outing in the first game, conceding 374 runs together.

Preview: Virat Kohli-led India’s return to international cricket in several months on Friday was a tough one as the Men in Blue collapsed to Australia by 66 runs in the first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

After that defeat, the visitors will now look to bounce back strongly when the second ODI takes place on Sunday. Most of the Indian bowlers, barring Mohammed Shami (who took three wickets), had an off-day on Friday, as centuries from Aussie skipper Aaron Finch (114) and Steve Smith (105) propelled the hosts to 374-6 after electing to bat.

In reply, the likes of Virat Kohli (21), Mayank Agarwal (22) and KL Rahul (12) failed to fire, but Shikhar Dhawan (74) fought hard early on, after which Hardik Pandya entertained with a 76-ball 90, but all that went in vain.

Pandya, who last bowled in competitive cricket in September 2019 before undergoing a successful lower-back surgery in October that year, was not yet fully fit to bowl, and he said in the post-match press conference that he would ‘bowl when the time is right’. The 27-year-old has been working on remodelling his bowling action in the nets since after that surgery.

For the hosts, Adam Zampa (4/54) and Josh Hazlewood (3/55) were clinical in the bowling department.
