Rajat Patidar owned the big stage with a magnificent hundred as Royal Challengers Bangalore beat debutants Lucknow Super Giants by 14 runs in the IPL Eliminator in Kolkata on Wednesday.

RCB will now take on Rajasthan Royals, losers of first qualifiers, in qualifier 2, while Lucknow's journey ended following the defeat here.

Invited to bat, Patidar, the 28-year-old from Madhya Pradesh, produced an innings for the ages as he towered over his more illustrious colleagues with an unbeaten 54-ball 112-run knock that had as many as 12 fours and 7 maximums to power RCB to a huge 207 for 4.

In reply, skipper KL Rahul slammed a 58-ball 79 to keep Lucknow in the hunt but Josh Hazlewood (3/43) dealt a twin blow in the penultimate over as LSG finished at 193 for 6.

Rajat Patidar and Dinesh Karthik were at their absolute best on Wednesday, the former bringing up his maiden T20 ton and producing one of the best knocks in the history of the IPL while the latter yet again tearing bowlers apart in the death overs.

Together, they helped add 84 runs in the last five overs of the innings as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) posted a commanding 207/4 on the board after being invited to bat by the Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Besides Patidar and DK's fireworks, the LSG fielders too were guilty of making far too many mistakes on the field, with both aforementioned batters beneficiaries of dropped chances. 'Catches win matches', or so the saying goes, and Lucknow could have very well restricted Bangalore to score in the 160-170 range or less had they grabbed their chances.

Here's a detailed look at the dropped catches and other near-misses in the RCB innings:

12.3: De Kock misses out on a direct hit at the non-striker's end, which would've caught Patidar well short of the crease had it hit the timber. Patidar, on 58 at the time, pushed for a risky single after getting a bat-pad deflection towards the keeper.

14.5: LSG skipper KL Rahul drops Dinesh Karthik on 2. Karthik chipped the ball towards wide mid off; Rahul put in a slide after running to his left, but the ball popped out of his hands.

15.3: The third delivery of Ravi Bishnoi's 27-run over saw Rajat Patidar miscue a pull after the leg-spinner fired a googly. Was an easy enough catch for Deepak Hooda in front of the midwicket boundary, but the ball somehow burst through his palms and ended up going past the rope for a four.

17.3: This was among the tougher chances put down in the innings. Patidar got a thick leading edge, and Manan Vohra had to cover a lot of distance from backward point, and ultimately couldn't grab on to it.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Rajat Patidar was at his absolute best as he unleashed his A game at Eden Gardens on Wednesday after Lucknow Super Giants' (RCB) skipper invited the Bangalore-based franchise to bat first.

Patidar slammed the first century of his T20 career in just 49 balls and finally finished with the figures of 112 in 54 balls laced with 12 fours and 7 sixes.

RCB got off to a shaky start as they lost their in-form skipper Faf du Plessis for a golden duck off Mohsin's Khan bowling in the the first over of the match. Next in line to go was Virat Kohli (25) who yet again played a patchy knock, just about managing to strike over 100 in the 24 balls he faced.

Maxwell too departed cheaply as he toe-ended a pull to long leg as he was looking to get inside the line to pull Krunal Pandya away, but picked out the bigger boundary.

RCB continued to push for boundaries but lost Mahipal Lomror cheaply too.

With all this happening at other end, unfazed Patidar continued the surge and completed his 28-ball fifty. He was then joined by in-form Dinesh Karthik, who has played the role of a finisher to perfection for RCB this season.

Patidar along with Karthik (37 not out from 23 balls) put on an unbeaten partnership of 92 runs from 41 balls as RCB scored 84 runs in the last five overs to prop up the total.

After cruising to his half-century in 28 balls, Patidar just took another 21 balls to reach his maiden hundred in T20s.

He got to the landmark pulling Mohsin over square leg with a sweet-timing of the bat that summed up his effortless stay at the crease.

Karthik also survived some anxious moments against Ravi Bishnoi to start with. However, Patidar turned it around in the last over when he smacked Bishnoi  for three sixes and two fours in succession in an over that read 1,6,4,6,4,6.

A sloppy LSG also helped his cause as Patidar got reprieves on 59, 72 and 93.

Finally, the Royal Challengers Bangalore got to an imposing total of 207 for 4.

Ravi Bishnoi was in for a proper hammering on Wednesday evening as a well-set Rajat Patidar bludgeoned him for 27 runs in a single over during the IPL 2022 Eliminator between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The over in question was the 16th of the Bangalore innings after Lucknow won the toss and chose to field. RCB were going at a little over eight-an-over until then with Patidar fairly well set at the crease, and the three-time runners-up needed a big over or two if they were to post a competitive total in excess of 180.

Bishnoi had bowled a tidy over until then, having conceded just 18 in the three overs he had bowled and accounting for Mahipal Lomror's wicket in his previous over. His final over of the evening though, would change the course of the RCB innings.

Dinesh Karthik, who walked in after Lomror's dismissal, collected a single off the first delivery. Patidar was served a short delivery from the leg-spinner in the second ball and crunched the pull towards deep midwicket, collecting his third six of the evening. In the next four balls, he would add two more, clobbering both down the ground.

He also collected two fours in the over, the first of which came off a dropped catch by Deepak Hooda at deep midwicket as the ball burst through his palms, followed by a solid punch down the ground in the penultimate delivery.

Bishnoi ended up bowling out one of the most expensive overs of the season with 27 coming off it, an over that suddenly took RCB's run rate past nine and turned the game on its head. Bishnoi wasn't the only one who came under fire though; Sri Lankan seamer Dushmantha Chameera ended up getting smashed for two sixes and as many fours, divided evenly between Patidar and Kartik, as he conceded 21 in the penultimate over of the innings.

Patidar would later go on to play the knock of a lifetime, bringing up his maiden T20 century with a six off Mohsin Khan in the 18th over, consuming just 49 balls for the same, and would remain unbeaten on 112 off 54 as Bangalore finished on a commanding 207/4 — 84 of those runs coming in the back five.
