23:27 (IST)

That brings us to the end of India's tour of Sri Lanka, the Men in Blue starting off with a dominant victory in the first ODI, only for Sri Lanka to fight back from that defeat and compete hard in every game thereafter. Both teams end with a series victory apiece, with Sri Lanka winning their first bilateral series since the Dasun Shanaka-led side completed a 3-0 sweep over Pakistan in an away campaign in 2019. The 2-1 victory is also their first series win over India in 13 years, the side last having beaten the Indians 3-2 in a one-day series at home in 2008.

Here's hoping the youngsters in the two sides will have learnt their lessons moving forward in a World Cup year, and the selectors of the two sides will have had a better idea of what their squads look like for the T20 extravaganza that takes place in the UAE in October-November this year. For now, it's time for us to bid you all good night!

23:27 (IST)

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka: First of all, I should thank BCCI, under these circumstances, they agreed to play. Special thanks to Dravid and Dhawan. This was our best performance in the last few years. Not only myself, but all the boys were also working very hard with their fitness, they want to be world class, you see how Chameera started, Hasaranga bowled, Karunaratne is a gem for Sri Lankan cricket. They have been using their brains really well and I am lucky to lead this team. When a low score is set, it's really hard, it is good if you get a good start, hopefully in the future but these guys are young and they will learn.

23:20 (IST)

Shikhar Dhawan, India captain; It was a difficult situation for us, and as a team we decided to stay and complete the series. Lots of learning and I’m proud of the way the boys played in the series and also in the last two games. Their attitude was tremendous. Last game was quite close. Today it was an off day for us as a batting unit. We lost too many wickets, and Sri Lankan bowlers bowled well. They were getting turn from ball one. Glad we could even reach till 80, that was the best we could do. I total agree both teams played in great spirit. It was beautiful that we were quite competitive on the field, and at the same time the respect was there. The Sri Lankan captain wanted to my know what’s my process, and I was sharing that with them, and hope they enjoyed listening to it.

23:18 (IST)

Hasaranga is named the Man of the Match and Man of the Series as well.

"The wicket was slow, the spinners bowled really well. When I bowl I always try to bowl dot balls that's why I easily take wickets. I am really happy because our boys did really well throughout the series, ODI and T20I."

23:01 (IST)

After 14.3 overs,Sri Lanka 82/3 ( Dhananjaya de Silva 23 , Wanindu Hasaranga 14)

A single off each of the first two balls, with two leg byes off the third. De Silva’s adjudged caught-behind while attempting to nudge at a delivery fired down leg by Chakravarthy, but manages to overturn it after Ultra Edge shows nothing. What’s more, the umpire signals it a wide, and that’s the winning run for the Sri Lankans.

Sri Lanka hammer India by seven wickets in the decider and take the series 2-1, snapping their own losing streak and bringing India’s winning run in T20Is to an end!

22:55 (IST)

After 14 overs,Sri Lanka 77/3 ( Dhananjaya de Silva 22 , Wanindu Hasaranga 13)

Dhananjaya de Silva further puts the Sri Lankan camp at ease with a boundary at the start of Warrier’s third over. Things get even worse two balls later as a throw towards the striker’s end ends up missing the poles and runs away for five overthrows. 10 from the over. Sri Lanka on the verge of a memorable series win, needing just five more now.

22:52 (IST)

FOUR! Pulled in front of square by Dhananjaya off a short delivery from Warrier! The Sri Lankans are marching towards the target now. SL 70/3

22:51 (IST)

After 13 overs,Sri Lanka 66/3 ( Dhananjaya de Silva 16 , Wanindu Hasaranga 8)

Kuldeep into his second over. Hasaranga, the new man at the crease, gets off the mark with an uppish cover drive off the third ball that fetches him two runs, followed by another double next ball. Hasaranga ends the over with a well-executed slog-sweep towards the vacant midwicket fence for his first boundary. Just 16 needed for the Lankans now, with 10 coming from this over.

22:50 (IST)

FOUR! Hasaranga gets down on one knee and slog-sweeps towards the vacant midwicket fence off the last delivery of Kuldeep's second over. Less than 20 left for the hosts to chase now. SL 66/3

22:47 (IST)

After 12 overs,Sri Lanka 56/3 ( Dhananjaya de Silva 15 , Wanindu Hasaranga 0)

Chahar into his final over. Fires one wide outside off to de Silva, who responds with a well-timed cut behind square for a boundary to bring up the team fifty. He then works the ball behind square on the leg side for a brace off the third, and collects a single next ball. Chahar ends his quota by getting Samarawickrama bowled for 6, finishing with figures of 4-0-15-3.

22:46 (IST)

BOWLED! Chahar picks up his third wicket off his final delivery of the evening. Samarawickrama, playing across the line, misses the topspinner and the ball clips the top of middle! Fine end to what has been a standout spell from the leggie so far. SL 56/3

Samarawickrama b Chahar 6(13)

22:43 (IST)

FOUR! Chahar fires this one wide outside off, and de Silva, who's been having a good series both with bat and ball, cuts this behind point for a boundary, bringing up the 50 for the team. SL 53/2

22:42 (IST)

After 11 overs,Sri Lanka 48/2 ( Sadeera Samarawickrama 5 , Dhananjaya de Silva 8)

Kuldeep Yadav, who had top-scored for the Indians today with an unbeaten 23, is introduced into the attack for the first time, with Samarawickrama and De Silva sticking to collecting the singles and showing no hurry yet. Big shout for LBW in the fifth delivery, but umpire Dharmasena shakes his head, and signals it as runs off the bat. Six from the over. Sri Lanka need 34 off 54.

22:38 (IST)

After 10 overs,Sri Lanka 42/2 ( Sadeera Samarawickrama 3 , Dhananjaya de Silva 4)

Massive appeal for LBW by Chahar and the Indians after Samarawickrama misses a sweep, and they go upstairs after the umpire Palliyaguruge shakes his head. Samarawickrama had shuffled far to his right and the ball looked like it would be missing off thanks to the slight turn, which is indeed the case on Hawk-Eye. De Silva goes for a lofted drive over extra cover, and the ball lands safely in front of the man standing at the deep. The two batsmen keep the scoreboard ticking with the ones in this over, building a steady partnership to take their team to safety. At the halfway stage, Sri Lanka have score three runs more than what the Indians had managed while losing as many wickets fewer. Sri Lanka need 40 off 60.

22:32 (IST)

After 9 overs,Sri Lanka 37/2 ( Sadeera Samarawickrama 2 , Dhananjaya de Silva 1)

Just two runs from Chakravarthy’s third over of the day with Samarawickrama and DDS collecting a single each, the latter getting off the mark. Sri Lanka not very far off from where India were at the same stage, their run rate a little over four an over at the moment. India have to capitalise on the current situation if they are to defend the 81-run total.

22:28 (IST)

After 8 overs,Sri Lanka 35/2 ( Sadeera Samarawickrama 1 , )

Chahar operates with a short leg in place. Stumping chance in the second ball as Samarawickrama is beaten for turn, but his foot is firmly inside at the time of Samson whipping the bails off. Chahar strikes for a second time this innings in the final ball of the over as he traps Bhanuka leg-before for 18. Bhanuka goes for the review and ends up burning it, getting three reds on Hawk-Eye. Sri Lanka need 47 to win from 72 with 8 wickets in hand.

22:27 (IST)

OUT! Chahar's keeping India's series hopes alive! Traps Bhanuka leg-before with a delivery that straightens after pitching along off, the umpire raising his finger right away. Bhanuka goes for the review and gets three reds in return. SL 35/2

Bhanuka LBW Chahar 18(27)

22:23 (IST)

After 7 overs,Sri Lanka 33/1 ( Minod Bhanuka (W) 17 , Sadeera Samarawickrama 0)

Debutant Warrier into his second over. Bhanuka collects a brace off the second delivery, before ramping a short ball over the keeper’s head for a boundary. An under-pressure Bhanuka then concedes a wide. Another brace for Bhanuka off the fourth, and a single off the final ball as he keeps the strike. He’s batting on 17 at the moment, and will look to anchor the remainder of the chase.

22:19 (IST)

FOUR! Ramped over the keeper's head by Bhanuka off a short ball from Warrier, and that should ease some of pressure for the Lankans created by Fernando's dismissal. SL 29/1

22:18 (IST)

After 6 overs,Sri Lanka 23/1 ( Minod Bhanuka (W) 8 , Sadeera Samarawickrama 0)

Rahul Chahar is brought into the attack in the final over of powerplay, and he gets rid of in-form opener Fernando, who chips the ball tamely back to the bowler with Chahar pulling off a fine catch off his own bowling. Just one off the over aside from the wicket, with SL’s run rate a shade under four-an-over so far. India might have a chance after all.

22:14 (IST)

OUT! Superbly caught by Chahar off his own bowling, as Fernando departs for 12. The right-handed opener looking to pull this in front of square, but was surprised by the bounce and turn, and ended up tamely toe-ending the ball back to the bowler, who has to dive to his left to complete a fine return catch. SL 23/1

Fernando c and b Chahar 12(18)

22:10 (IST)

After 5 overs,Sri Lanka 22/0 ( Avishka Fernando 12 , Minod Bhanuka (W) 7)

Change of bowling as Sandeep Warrier, right-arm medium, comes into the attack, replaces Bhuvi. Starts off with a dot. Concedes a single off the second ball to Fernando, followed by two more dots. Bhanuka eases one to square of the wicket on off side for a single. Last ball stopped at cover. Good start from Warrier in his debut match.

22:06 (IST)

After 4 overs,Sri Lanka 20/0 ( Avishka Fernando 11 , Minod Bhanuka (W) 6)

Chakravarthy continues. Bhanuka takes a single off a misfield at cover. Second ball is a bad one, short tracker and hit for a boundary by Fernando. Eight off the over. This is a good start from Sri Lanka in this chase.

22:04 (IST)

FOUR! Fernando hits Chakravarthy for a boundary, short one from the spinner and Fernando had enough time to hit to deep mid-wicket

22:01 (IST)

After 3 overs,Sri Lanka 12/0 ( Avishka Fernando 5 , Minod Bhanuka (W) 4)

Bhuvneshwar continues. No run on the first ball. Second slightly fuller and Fernando drives it mid on to collect three. Dhawan saves one there. Two off the second ball as Bhanuka hits it over the mid-wicket fielder. A wide from Bhuvi, criminal under circumstances. Seven off the over.

21:58 (IST)

After 2 overs,Sri Lanka 5/0 ( Avishka Fernando 2 , Minod Bhanuka (W) 1)

Varun Chakravarthy, right-arm leg break, bowls from the other end. First ball short from Varun and Bhanuka hits it to square leg and collects a single. Varun then bowls four dots on the trot to Fernando before conceding a single. Two off the over.

21:49 (IST)

After 1 over,Sri Lanka 3/0 ( Avishka Fernando 1 , Minod Bhanuka (W) 0)

Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka walk out to bat as the Sri Lankans hope to make quick work of the lowly target set to them by the Indians. Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the ball in hand at the start of the first over. Tidy first over from Bhuvneshwar as he gives away three runs, including a single that allows Fernando to get off the mark in the second delivery.

21:35 (IST)

A brilliant performance in the field from Sri Lanka. The spinners bowled cleverly, varied their pace well and there was a lot of deception. The Indian batsmen looked confused and were bamboozled by the change in pace and spin. Kuldeep was the highest scorer with 23 runs and there were just four fours in the innings. Says a lot about India's batting.

21:31 (IST)

After 20 overs,India 81/8 ( Kuldeep Yadav 23 , Chetan Sakariya 5)

Sri Lanka restrict India to 81/8. A good final over from Chameera. He belted out good variety in bouncer, slower delivery and yorker. Along with a wide there were 3 singles in the over and Kuldeep lofted one over mid off for a two. Just four boundaries in India's entire innings

21:27 (IST)

Chameera will bowl the final over...

21:26 (IST)

After 19 overs,India 75/8 ( Kuldeep Yadav 20 , Chetan Sakariya 3)

Kuldeep getting some crucial runs. He is the top scorer so far with 20 runs. He pulls a slower bouncer to deep mid-wicket for a couple and then tucks one to fine leg for three. Sakariya then smashes one to short extra cover where the fielder misfields and allows a single. Kuldeep then takes a single to point before Sakariya heaves one to deep mid-wicket but only for a single. 9 runs off the over.

21:22 (IST)

Shanaka back into the attack...

21:21 (IST)

After 18 overs,India 66/8 ( Kuldeep Yadav 14 , Chetan Sakariya 1)

Another good over for Sri Lanka. A couple of fast bouncers in that over from Chameera. Kuldeep fighting it out in the middle, trying to garner as many singles in that over. Chameera bowls a slower one after a bouncer and Kuldeep is totally outfoxed as he looks to heave it to the leg side but misses it.  Kuldeep then pushes one to the leg side for a single to keep the strike. 3 runs off the over.

21:19 (IST)

Perhaps the best birthday ever for Hasaranga?

21:17 (IST)

Chameera back into the attack...

21:17 (IST)

After 17 overs,India 63/8 ( Kuldeep Yadav 12 , Chetan Sakariya 0)

What a spell from Hasaranga - 4-0-9-4. He bowls a mix of leg spinners and googlies in that over and gets the wicket of Chakravarthy. Just a single and a wicket off the over. Hasaranga has been really impressive on this tour. What a spell on his birthday!

21:16 (IST)

India 63/8. Chetak Sakariya is the new batsman...

21:15 (IST)

OUT! The Sri Lankans are flying in the field. It's that googly outside off, Chakravarthy comes forward and flicks it uppishly. Karunaratne at short mid-wicket flies to his left, and somehow manages to grab the catch. He fumbled a bit but recovered well to hold the ball to his body and drop it onto the ground.

21:13 (IST)

After 16 overs,India 62/7 ( Kuldeep Yadav 11 , Varun Chakravarthy 0)

Another over, another wicket falls for India. Apart from the one down the leg side which was trickled for a four, it was a decent over from Shanaka. He mixed his lengths well. And the pace as well. He managed to induce a leading edge as well which flew safely to third man. And got that wicket off the slower bouncer of Chahar. Shanaka has been brilliant with has variations and his fielding as well. 7 runs and a wicket off the over.

21:11 (IST)

OUT! Another one bites the dust. India 62/7. It's the slower bouncer on middle, Chahar at first looks to upper cut but then looks to take his bat away at the last moment. Ends up playing a half-hearted upper cut. The ball loops into the air and the keeper accepts a simple catch.

21:08 (IST)

FOUR! A boundary after 70 balls. It's a poor delivery from Shanaka, it drags it down the leg side, Chahar trickles it and it runs away to fine leg.

21:07 (IST)

After 15 overs,India 55/6 ( Kuldeep Yadav 9 , Rahul Chahar 0)

A successful over for Hasaranga. He kept a tight leash, gave away just two singles off the first four balls. Forced Bhuvneshwar to make things happen and then had him caught at short extra cover. He finished the over with a google off which Chahar missed his flick, there was an appeal for an LBW but the umpire turned it down. Looked to be going down the leg side. 2 runs and a wicket off the over.

21:04 (IST)

OUT! Another brilliant catch from Shanaka. It's on length on middle and spinning away. Bhuvneshwar stays in his crease and looks to loft it over extra cover, doesn't connect it well and Shanaka at short extra cover leaps to pouch a one-handed catch.

21:03 (IST)

Hasaranga back on...

21:02 (IST)

After 14 overs,India 53/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 15 , Kuldeep Yadav 8)

50 up for India. A sort of a milestone. After two runs off the first three balls, Dananjaya drops one slightly short, it spins away, Bhuvneshwar rocks back and looks to hammer it over extra cover but misses. Bhuvneshwar then pushes it to covers for a single before Kuldeep drives one behind point for a couple. 5 runs off the over again.

20:59 (IST)

Dananjaya continues...

20:59 (IST)

After 13 overs,India 48/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 13 , Kuldeep Yadav 5)

India finally manage to get away from singles and manage to get a two in that over. This time the batsmen looked a bit authoritative. Bhuvneshwar punched one to deep cover for a single, there was a bit of hesitation for the second but they decided against taking it. Kuldeep then drove one through covers for a single. Bhuvneshwar pulled one to deep mid-wicket and then Kuldeep too connected a pull off the middle to get the two. Karunaratne finished the over with a slower one and a dot as Kuldeep pushed it to backward point. 5 runs off the over.

20:55 (IST)

Karunaratne back into the attack....Surprising given that Shanaka was bowling well...

20:54 (IST)

After 12 overs,India 43/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 11 , Kuldeep Yadav 2)

Nice deceptive over from Dananjaya. He flighted them well, bowled leg spin and off spin. He beat Bhuvneshwar's outside edge off one that spun away sharply. Bhuvneshwar has to be cautious throughout the over and took a single off the last ball to long off.  Just that one run off the over.

20:53 (IST)

Wasim bhai sums it up neatly

India vs Sri Lanka (IND vs SL) 3rd T20I Live Cricket Score Updates: Sri Lanka hammer India by seven wickets in the decider and take the series 2-1, snapping their own losing streak and bringing India’s winning run in T20Is to an end!

Preview: India take on Sri Lanka in the 3rd T20I in Colombo. After the COVID-19 chaos which saw Krunal Pandya and eight of his close contacts in the Indian team ruled out of the series, the action finally got underway following one day postponement.

Sri Lanka bounced back in the 2nd T20I to draw level 1-1. It was a good bowling effort from them, especially the spinners to restrict India to a below-par total of 132/5. Their batsmen stuttered in the chase but crucial contributions from Minod Bhanuka (36 off 31), Dhananjaya de Silva (40 off 34), Chamika Karunaratne (12 off 6) and Wanindu Hasarange (15 off 11) made sure that Sri Lanka were still alive as they chased down the target with two deliveries to spare.

They would be happy that the middle order made crucial contributions after failures early on.

India were unlucky as they were down to bare bones with the availability of the players. They were forced to play just five batsmen along with six bowlers and they had to strategise accordingly in the batting department. There were 4 debuts for India and they will get another chance to shine on the big stage.

The team will mostly be the same given the lack of options at hand. One of the batsmen will need to bat through while the other will need to take their chances and try to bat big as well. The pitches have been slower and sluggish and the batsmen will have to find a way to score runs on tough tracks and against pace variations.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav impressed in the bowling department and he will be looking to get back into the reckoning for the T20 World Cup with another solid performance.

With Sri Lanka looking to end on a high after the ODI series loss and India looking to do the double, we could be in for an enthralling finale.

Not only has Yuzvendra Chahal made a solid case for selection into India's T20 World Cup squad thanks to his exploits in the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka, Yuzvendra Chahal has also moved up the ladder in the ICC player rankings. So was the case with vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who too has chipped in with positive performances

Kuldeep Yadav, India left-arm wrist spinner: When you don’t get opportunities, you look for it. This was the best opportunity for the same. Disappointing what happened to Krunal. Wasn’t good for the team. But boys showed good spirit in the last game. I always take it game-by-game, and it’s a good opportunity for me to perform. I have worked further on the basics. When you play regular cricket, you sometimes miss out on the basics. Spoke to Hirwani sir as well and he helped a lot. When you play after a long time, you are under pressure to perform. They don’t bat as aggressively, but they play well ball-to-ball. Rahul Dravid has motivated me a lot. Openly spoke to him a lot in Mumbai during quarantine. He told me to work hard and not worry much about the results.

Another one down for India?

India could lose another member of the squad for the final T20I. Navdeep Saini was injured while attempting a catch in the 2nd T20I and was taken off the field. Bowling coach Paras Mhambrey said that they were assessing the situation and take a decision accordingly. Navdeep wasn't called up to bowl in the match and injured himself in the penultimate over.

"In Navdeep's case, I think the medical team is handling him. We will assess the situation, maybe tonight or in the morning and take a decision accordingly," Mhambrey said in the post-match press conference.

"And I think, once the decision is finalised and conveyed to the selectors and the coach, I think we will go ahead and then if needed we need to make any changes, we will do that," he added.

With India down to bare bones, all five net bowlers — Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, Simarjeet Singh and R Sai Kishore — had been added to the main squad for the final two T20Is.

Captain Dhawan proud of his team's performance in 2nd T20I

Despite the defeat in the 2nd T20I, captain Shikhar Dhawan was all praise for the players for the fight they put up defending 132.

"I am very proud of the boys because we gave a very good fight. That never-say-die attitude and taking the game to the last over while defending just 132, credit to both bowlers and batters," Dhawan said.

Toss update: Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl.

1st T20 preview: Two supremely-talented teams collide in a four-match T20 International series with the West Indies and Pakistan starting Wednesday at Kensington Oval in Barbados before the contest shifts to Providence Stadium in Guyana for the remaining three matches.

West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard and his Pakistan counterpart Babar Azam at the toss ahead of the first T20I. AFP

This was originally scheduled as a five-match series but last week's COVID-19 scare during the One-Day International series between the West Indies and Australia forced a two-day delay which has resulted in the loss of one of the scheduled encounters in Barbados. History suggests that the tourists will start as favourites.

Since being well beaten by 84 runs in Dhaka at the 2014 World T20, the Pakistanis have gotten the better of the reigning world champions in nine of the subsequent ten meetings.

But a lot has happened in the three years since they last met in April, 2018, and while it is quite possible that Babar Azam’s side, having just come out of a very competitive series in England, will maintain their impressive run against these opponents, they would certainly have noticed the transformation – on and off the field – which suggests that the West Indies are a very different outfit now.

While the team that last faced Pakistan in Karachi missed a host of key players, the West Indies can now truly to be said to be at full strength, with the exception of spinner Sunil Narine who continues to be unavailable due to a reported lack of confidence at this time in his bowling action.

However having Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo and captain Kieron Pollard, together with a host of other headline names, is no guarantee of success.

West Indies struggled consistently to chase modest totals in a series with South Africa and were found wanting against the spin of top-ranked Tabraiz Shamsi and to a lesser extent, Geroge Linde, losing the series in Grenada in June 3-2.

West Indies rebounded from that series loss to South Africa to breeze past Australia 4-1 in St Lucia, although their struggles against spin were emphasised in the subsequent three-match ODI series with Australia prevailing 2-1 and West Indies captain Pollard in the immediate aftermath on Monday condemning the pitches prepared for those matches in Bridgetown as an embarrassment and unfit for international cricket.

One of most consistent criticisms of this West Indies T20 squad is that they are too reliant on boundary-hitting and soak up far too many scoreless deliveries for them to be consistently competitive when the big events come around. That was apparent against both the South Africans and Australians.

This is something Pakistan will no doubt want to exploit, especially if the surfaces are helpful enough and the likes of Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Usman Qadir and even the evergreen Mohammad Hafeez are confident enough to challenge the vaunted West Indies power-hitters in the manner of Shamsi and Linde just a few weeks ago.

Teams (probable):

West Indies: Kieron Pollard (captain), Evin Lewis, Lendl Simmons, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran (wicketkeeper), Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Dwayne Bravo, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh, Fidel Edwards.

Pakistan: Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Sohaib Maqsood, Mohammad Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Qadir, Mohammad Hasnain.

India vs Sri Lanka (IND vs SL) 2nd T20I Live Cricket Score Updates: After a comfortable win in the first T20I, India will be looking to seal the series in the 2nd T20I. They batted better than the Lankans on a slow turning wicket and then the bowlers adapted well to the surface to defend 164. Sri Lanka would be looking to bounce back and stay alive in the series. It's a chance for the youngsters and newcomers to impress with some of the players, who were close contacts of Krunal Pandya who tested positive for COVID-19, isolating.

Preview: India take on Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I in Colombo.

It's gone a bit chaotic on the tour again. Before the start of the T20I series, Sri Lanka's batting coach Grant Flower and team's video analyst GT Niroshan had tested positive for COVID-19 which forced the rescheduling of the series. Now after the 1st T20, India all-rounder Krunal Pandya has tested positive and eight contacts have been isolated and can't take the field despite testing negative as a precautionary measure. The second T20I was pushed back by a day and India might have to field a different side.

Sri Lanka will be looking to bounce back after a comprehensive loss in the first T20I. Their bowlers did well to restrict India to 164/5 but their batsmen faltered and they fell short by 38 runs.

A much better batting display is the need of the hour. Dot balls has been a constant problem for them, especially in the middle overs. They played out 46 dot balls in the first T20I, nearly 8 overs. The middle order needs to step up and deliver. The two batsmen that have looked confident out in the middle on this tour are Avishka Fernando and Charith Asalanka. The rest of them will need to provide a helping hand. Their bowlers did well to recognise the slowness of the pitch and bowled a lot of cutters. Still, there is more room for improvement.

India rode on Suryakumar Yadav's half-century in the batting department. However, even their batsmen seemed to struggle with the slow pace of the pitch. Prithvi Shaw got out for a golden duck on his T20I debut. Sanju Samson again frittered away his start. The two will be looking to make the most of the chances with the T20 World Cup on the horizon.

Hardik Pandya too has struggled with ball and bat on this tour. He's had scored of 0,19 and 10 so far and hasn't had a major impact with the ball as well. Suryakumar has been in brilliant form and he will again be the biggest threat for the Lankans.

In the bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has got into the groove with four wickets, while Chahal seems to have found his mojo back. The leg spinner will again be the biggest threat for the hosts as he looks to get back his permanent place in the side.

Varun Chakravarthy impressed in his first outing and would look to continue the momentum going into the second ODI.

With Sri Lanka looking to save the series, and India looking to wrap it up, we can expect another entertaining contest.

Seam bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar led a disciplined bowling performance as India hammered Sri Lanka by 38 runs in the opening Twenty20 international after a Covid scare at the stadium on Sunday.

Chasing 165 for victory, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 126 in 18.3 overs with Kumar returning figures of 4-22 in Colombo. India lead the three-match series 1-0.

Earlier skipper Shikhar Dhawan (46) and Suryakumar Yadav (50) guided India to 164-5 in 20 overs after being put into bat first.

Spinners Krunal Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, debutant Varun Chakravarthy and quick bowler Hardik Pandya took one wicket each.

A ground staffer at the R Premadasa Stadium tested positive for Covid-19 following a rapid antigen test, Sri Lanka Cricket said, before the hosts won the toss.

As a precaution, reporters and photographers were not allowed inside the 35,000 capacity ground where the white-ball series is being played.

Spectators were already barred from attending since the start of the three-match one-day series which India won 2-1.

The second T20I has been postponed by a day after Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced into a seven-day isolation, meaning he would miss the last two matches.

New Delhi: The second T20 International between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday was postponed by a day after the visiting all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19, forcing him out of the series with seven days of isolation.

However, all his eight close contacts, who were isolated, have tested "negative" in the RT-PCR tests but as a precautionary measure won't be able to take the field on Wednesday. Since the close contacts are mostly players, India might have to field a depleted side.

As per Sri Lanka's health safety protocols, Krunal will not be able to travel back to India with other members of the contingent on 30 July as he will now have to undergo mandatory isolation and obtain a negative RT-PCR report.

The third and final T20 is scheduled to be held on Thursday.

"Krunal is symptomatic with cough and throat pain. He is obviously out of the series and will not be able able to return with rest of the squad," a BCCI source tracking the developments in Colombo told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"However the good news is that all his eight close contacts who were identified by the BCCI medical officer (Dr Abhijit Salvi) have tested negative. But as a precautionary measure can't take the field."

For now, the three-match series is on as even if there are a couple of more cases, the Indian team has enough players with negative RT-PCR reports to field a team.

Krunal, who tested positive on Tuesday morning, has already been quarantined.

"The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India originally scheduled to be played on July 27 has been pushed forward by a day and will now take place on Wednesday, 28 July," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a media statement.

"Following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning, Krunal Pandya was found to be positive. The Medical Teams have identified eight members as close contacts," the release had earlier stated.

However, it has been learnt from BCCI sources that all the members of the Indian contingent were put in room isolation till they received their negative RT-PCR report.

The entire contingent has undergone RT-PCR tests on the day to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad.

"If everyone is in the clear, we can have the match on Wednesday. Maximum among the eight close contacts who are also in mandatory isolation are players," a BCCI source added.

"We are all in room isolation till the test reports come," a member of the Indian contingent in Colombo said.

India are travelling with a 20-member squad plus four stand bye net bowlers.

The match was to be played at the R Premadasa Stadium.

Now, there will be back-to-back matches on Wednesday and Thursday provided there aren't any more players testing positive to affect the balance of the sides which will lead to cancellation.

India won the first T20 international by 38 runs and it is quite baffling as to how Krunal, who has been a part of the strict bio-bubble for the past one month, contracted the virus.

While the series is being played closed doors, the bio-security bubble breach at the Taj Samudra hotel in Colombo, where the Indian team is staying, could be a reason.

One of the logistics staff (bus driver, groundsmen) or catering staff at the ground could also be a carrier.

The development is also likely to affect the travel plans of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav, who were due to join the Indian team in England after this series for an upcoming Test assignment against England next month.

The duo were supposed to link up with the red ball squad in UK after the completion of the T20 series and it is still not clear whether these two are among the eight, who were in close contact of Krunal.

However, all his eight close contacts, who were isolated, have tested "negative" in the RT-PCR tests but according to a report in ESPNCricinfo, they will not be allowed to travel to the ground for the remaining two matches of the series.

"However the good news is that all his eight close contacts who were identified by the BCCI medical officer (Dr Abhijit Salvi) have tested negative."

Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya has tested positive for COVID-19 leading to the postponement of the 2nd T20I match that was supposed to be played on Tuesday, reported ANI. Both teams are in isolation currently and the 2nd T20I will take place only if all players test negative.

India had defeated Sri Lanka in first T20I by 38 runs and were looking to seal the series in the second match.

Krunal is the second Indian cricketer to test positive for COVID-19. Earlier this month Rishabh Pant tested positive for the virus in England, where the Test contingent has travelled for a five-match series.

Toss update: West Indies won the toss and opted to bat

2nd ODI report: Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran made half centuries in a 93-run sixth wicket partnership which steered the West Indies to a four-wicket win over Australia in the rescheduled second one-day cricket international Saturday, levelling the three-match series at 1-1.

In a match in which the top orders of both teams failed, Holder and Pooran lifted the home team from 72-5 in the 15th over to 165-5 in the 36th, chasing Australia’s 187.

Holder was out for 52 when the West Indies were just 23 runs from victory and Pooran went on to make an unbeaten 59 and guide them to victory with 72 balls remaining. Alzarri Joseph, who hit a boundary for the winning runs, was 5 not out.

Pooran was dropped on 26 by Moises Henriques and 49 by Matthew Wade as fielding lapses by Australia helped the West Indies to an important win. Australia won the first match of the series by 133 runs and the third match will be played on Monday.

“For me, it’s just about building a partnership, fighting and finding a way with Jason (Holder),” Pooran said. “We know at night at Kensington (Oval) it’s a bit tricky.

“You can’t really drive the ball properly so you just have to find a way and fight, fight.”

Australia also were in deep trouble before their ailing innings were revived by the lower order.

At 45-6, Australia were staring at their lowest one-day international total: They were all out for 70 against England in 1977 and for the same total against New Zealand in 1986.

Wade and Starc put on 51 for the seventh wicket to lead Australia past that mark, then past 91, their previous lowest score against the West Indies.

Australia were 96-7 when Starc was out. Wade went on to add 32 with Adam Zampa for the eighth wicket before falling for 36 and Zampa also made 36 in a 59-run stand with Wes Agar. Agar, playing only his second ODI, was the last man out for 41.

The West Indies may have regretted their decision to allow Agar to play as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood who had a slight calf muscle strain. Australia could have been obliged to play the team they named for the match which was due to be played and technically had begun 48 hours earlier.

The toss had been made and play was about to start on Thursday when officials learned a non-playing member of the West Indies team had returned a positive test for COVID-19.

The players, support staff, match officials and members of the broadcast team returned to their hotel and were held in in-room isolation while everyone was re-tested. All of those tests were negative, allowing the match to be rescheduled for Saturday.

“It has been a challenging two days and we have worked very swiftly and safely, following all the established medical protocols, to make sure that all necessary precautions are in place to ensure that we can go-ahead to resume play safely,” Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt said.

With the third ODI now set for Monday, Cricket West Indies are negotiating to re-schedule a five-match Twenty20 series against Pakistan which is due to begin on Tuesday.

Australia captain Alex Carey won the toss on Saturday and chose to bat for the second time in the series.

Ben McDermott was out to the fourth ball of the innings and Australia was 23-2 when Josh Philippe followed in the seventh over. The Aussies were 26-3 when Jason Holder dismissed Mitchell Marsh for eight.

Slow left-armer Akeal Hossain took advantage of sharp turn to claim the next three wickets as Australia slumped to 41-4 when Carey was out for 10, 44-5, then 45-6. Hossain’s first two overs returned 3/5.

Australia made similar early inroads into the West Indies innings. Starc trapped Evin Lewis lbw, then beat Darren Bravo with a fast in-swinger which ripped though his guard and uprooted off stump.

Zampa removed Jason Mohammed (11) and Kieron Pollard (2) and Ashton Turner bowled Shai Hope (38) with is second ball in ODI cricket, leaving the West Indies 72-5.
